So, remember last night when I mentioned that I once owned two copies of Almost Famous on VHS and that I’d get to that in a second? And then I never did? Yeah … good times.
Sorry about that.
We’re going to rewind my life back to college (back when movies still came on video tape) and my senior year. I lived in a house with a bunch of my friends and my movie collection could fit on two shelves (okay, maybe three). My birthday hovered precariously close to the friend of my very good friend Emily (November is an awesome month). We got together one night with gifts wrapped for each other, the perfect gifts, ones that perfectly fit the other person. I got her a copy of Zen Guitar and she got me Almost Famous. They were perfect, so perfect that we already had them.
This was twelve years ago now. Which is fitting, I suppose, considering the movie that we were discussing. Events become memories and memories become story. Sometimes, songs and books and movies can connect us to our memories, our stories.
More later …
